Cosmetic & (Plastic) Aesthetic Surgery For Men

C.E.M. is the first Italian Center of Aesthetic Surgery for Men.

C.E.M. is located in Bologna.

The demand for aesthetic surgery procedures by male patients is growing fast and requires that a special attention is focused on this segment of the aesthetic surgery and medicine. Today men seek after not only the most classic rhinoplasty and hair transplant, but also the procedures for facial rejuvenation, body contouring, breast reduction, treatments with fillers and botulinum toxin. Differences between men and women come into play in evaluating indications and execution of all these procedures. This is the reason for C.E.M., the first Center in Italy where the MALE patient is catered for based on his own specific needs and procedures as well as treatments use gender-related approach and method.

 ALL TREATMENTS AND PROCEDURES

A pleasant and young looking look is useful for men who work with the public and care for their own appearance. Male aesthetic surgery is different from the one intended for females. Let’s see the most common treatments and procedures used to enhance the aesthetics of men.

Botulinum toxin
The treatment with the botulinum toxin is one of the most popular among men as well as women; as is true for all treatments and surgery, the same procedure is performed differently in men and women. This is why it is critical for men to always resort to a center specialized in aesthetics for men.
The botulinum toxin is used in different doses when treating men, and even more important proportions and characteristics of the male face should be attentively considered: the eyebrow should be lifted in a way that the eye expression is not feminized and remains masculine.
Also, it often happens in men that the botulin toxin is requested to treat hyperhidrosis (excessive sweat) in the armpit area, as well as hands. The treatment is performed on an outpatient basis and its effect lasts for about 6 months. The cost for this treatment varies from 200 to 600 euros.

Face filler
No doubt for the male face aesthetic characteristics and proportions apply that completely differ from the female face; similarly the male skin has characteristics completely different from the female face. The fillers meant for men are often different from the ones for women, and for sure they need to be used in a different way and in different doses. Depending on the filler in use the effects of this treatment can last from 3 to 8 months, and its cost from 300 to 700 euros.

Face rejuvenation • Endoscopic lift • Blepharoplasty
A few techniques can be combined to restore your facial natural freshness with no risk for the unwanted surgery effect. Thanks to the endoscopic lift, today facial surgery has remarkably reduced scars and recovery times.
Depending on indications, other techniques such as the necklift, the restoration of volumes with lipofilling and the treatment of lower eyelid bulging with transconjuntival blepharoplasty can be combined as an ideal complement for your face rejuvenation without altering the peculiar characteristics of your face.
To end with, a significant role in the field of facial rejuvenation is played by the use of the botulinum toxin for the treatment of expression wrinkles in the forehead and around the eyes.

Necklift
The necklift, also referred to as cervical lift, is a surgical procedure aiming to rejuvenating the neck area and restoring freshness and youth to the whole face. The necklift can be performed as a single procedure or in combination with other face rejuvenation procedures like R3 lifting, MIVEL, SEFFI and blepharoplasty. My technique for the necklift provides for tightening not so much and only the skin but especially the muscle responsible for the aged appearance of the neck, i.e. the platisma muscle. Through short scars around the ears ‘artificial ligaments’ are introduced which tighten the platisma muscle thus restoring a youthful appearance to the neck. This procedure is meant for men between the age of 45 and 65 years.
How the necklift procedure is performed: after infiltrating local anesthetic, the surgeon carefully dissects the skin from the muscle. The sling is strecthed upon the platisma muscle, then tightened and sutured behind the ears. Only the excess skin is trimmed away and an aesthetic suture is made. No need for a medication other than a careful disinfection of the wounds. This procedure can be performed either under assisted local anesthesia or under general anesthesia. Usually staying overnight in the clinic for observation is recommended.
How long it will be before you return to your social life: the patient is released with no medication on the wound so the procedure is not easily spotted. After about two weeks the suture stitches are removed and all normal activities can be resumed.

Nose lift • Rhinoplasty
The nose is the most evident part of your face, second only to the eyes. Its shape and size can form the main characteristic of your face. Some people wish they had a different shape or size, others aim to fixing damages caused by accidents, others just need to breath better. If you have ever wondered how a rhinoplasty procedure could improve your look, your safety or breathing, request a consultation where a computer-aided processing of your profile can help you find the best solution.
Procedures on men are not substantially different from those on women. In general the male face requires sharper outlines attained by accentuating the increase in chin projection, limiting the reduction of the nasal dorsum, the ‘bridge’, and the uplift of its tip.

Body contouring surgery
This branch of the aesthetic surgery aims at donating harmony and sinuosity to your body outline, which can be altered by adipose tissue (fat) deposits and/or muscle and skin sagging.
By use of a delicate syringe aspiration, the microliposculpting is a technique intended not only to remove fat deposits but to reshape your body outline as well when associated with lipofilling (adipose cell filling). In most cases this procedure can be performed under local anesthesia and the patient is released a few hours afterwards.
Abdominoplasty is the procedure usually sought by patients with loose or sagging skin or muscle tissues after pregnancy or major weight loss, used to make the abdomen thinner and more firm.
Also, a over-developed breast in men (gynecomastia) can be surgically treated. The new HA-based (Hyaluronic Acid) gel can provide for a minimally invasive solution for restoration of the body volumes and outline.

Gynecomastia (male breast)
Gynecomastia means enlarged male breast. Breast prominence can result from enlargement of glandular breast tissue, excess chest adipose tissue (fat) and skin, as well as from a combination of both.
Techniques used are different in either case: microliposuction in case of excess fat, subcutaneous mastectomy for excess glandular breast tissue, or a combination of both.

Ear surgery • Otoplasty
Otoplasty can improve the shape, position and proportion of your ears, most frequently treats their excessive protrusion by repositioning them to a more natural position hence making them less apparent. During the initial aesthetic consultation, you will be asked what you don’t like about your ears, what are your expectations and you will be illustrated the most probable outcome of the procedure. You will be shown before and after ear surgery photos of patients with ears similar to yours, and carefully informed of the techniques to be used.

Men and aesthetic surgery: the lifting between beard and baldness (aesthetic surgery for men)

They only have little time available, but expect natural results. They want to look younger, but with no compromise on their masculinity. They would rather go for a single and final solution than through many small operations, but with not much pain to suffer. Men consulting a plastic surgeon have very specific requirements and often different from women’s. Based on statistics released by AICPE (Italian Association for Aesthetic Plastic Surgery) 17,8% of all patients consulting a plastic surgeon in 2013 was male. Men are more and more focused on their aesthetics, especially on their face which is the most exposed part of their body, the first to show signs of aging. The male patients who consider to undergo a lifting procedure usually belong to the following categories: there may be homosexuals, reporting needs similar to women’s; career men, covering prestigious job positions; artists or showmen, as well as aesthetes, i.e. those obsessed with their own physical aspect. The most numerous category, however, is maybe that of the common men who see themselves age and would rather maintain a younger look, sometimes confronting with the disappointment of a recent divorce and determined to start a new more vibrant life with a spring in their step. All men approaching aesthetic surgery share similar feelings: they wish a single surgical operation to be resolutive, since they prefer not to consult the surgeon repeatedly, they seek results both evident and natural, while their masculinity is never to be touched, as well as short recovery times. Significant physical traits differentiate the male face from the female’s: male skin is thicker and rich in hair follicles, i.e. the beard. Also, if the male patient is bald the problem arises of hiding the scars since the hairline is where they are usually hidden.
The ‘totally shaved’ look is now pretty fashionable. Since men preferably restrain from dyeing their hair, and grey hair makes you look older, then baldness can be considered somewhat of an advantage here: with some attention to the scars, the outcome can be surprisingly good. The surgeon will pay special attention to make incisions as short as possible.
